Why is this forum invitation-only

Because the alternative is what happened to every other forum we used to read.

Anyone can read every page here without an account, and search engines can too. That part is deliberately open. What is not open is writing, because a place where anyone can write is a place where the signal drowns, and there is no moderation budget that fixes it after the fact.

Ask to join on the about page. A curator reads every note.
